Mein Weg ins Auslandsjahr

My Host Family Letter

Dear host family,

dpp_5730

First of all, thank you for reading this letter. It is very exciting for me to imagine, that I could be your future au-pair!

To introduce myself a little… my name is Marleen, and in January 2011 I’m getting 19. I’m currently living in Münchingen, a small town near Stuttgart (the city where Porsche and Mercedes are from) in southern Germany.
I live there in a apartment with my dad, who is a trucker.

My mum, her new partner Markus and my older brother Robin live in the same town and I visit them very often. My parents are divorced since I’m 14 but we have a good relationship to each other.

My school is a sixth- form college focusing on economies and located in Stuttgart and I will graduate in June 2011. By then I will have finished my A-levels and will be able to enter university in future.

In my freetime I like to hang out with my friends, I read a lot, watch movies with friends and photography is also one of my hobbies. Taking care of children takes up much of my freetime too. I’m a private tutor, and I’m coaching a girls soccer team. My girls are age 6-8 and I really enjoy spending time with them.

In addition to the soccer team I frequently look after Pia and Annalena. Those two girls are my cousins and now they are already 8 and 10 but I have been babysitting them for the last 6 years.
We used to do a lot of fun things together like dressing up on Halloween, painting t-shirts, baking our own “Pizza especiale” and such things. Both girls are playing hockey. I take them to their training and back and watch them whenever I can.

Since I live in a small town, I drive a lot on highways and downtown Stuttgart where my school is located. My cousins also live in a big city nearby, so I have gained quite a lot of long -and short- distance driving experience.

Every year we travel to my godfather and I take care of his kids for two weeks because he’s a hair dresser and works all day and his wife works, too. Tim and Lara are twins at the age of 14. We have spent some great time together like a camping tour with our bikes at a lake in Bavaria.

When I ask my friends about my character, they always say: “You’re always smiling, funny and the most positive person I know.” Beside these qualities I would also say that I’m totally reliable, open- minded, active and really tolerant. It would be so wonderful to become part of your family and get to know a new culture.

Of course I’m also looking forward to show you a part of my culture and I’m really exciting to finally be able to meet you!

So, feel free to call me or send me an e-mail!

Yours, Marleen
